Principal Leadership Team

Teams of administrators and teachers gathered in Washoe County School District on Thursday evening as part of a year-long inservice course that focuses on the development and articulation of an instructional vision. This evening's focus was on tools teams might use to define and pursue rigorous teaching and learning throughout their buildings. Participants began the evening by reviewing The Education Trust's report " Checking In: Do classroom assignments reflect today's higher standards ". Educators then took a 360* view of instruction by r eviewing a student task, it's accompanying student work , and a video of  classroom lesson that supported the teaching and learning. Educators and parents gathered Thursday night for the second Social Emotional Learning mini-conference hosted by the Social Emotional Learning department in Washoe County School District. At a session focusing on the integration of SEL and Common Core-aligned teaching and learning, participants worked through content from procon.org to engage with the instructional moves Shared Annotations and Structured Academic Controversy. North Star Online School - Core Support PL, Session 2

Educators at North Star Online School gathered Monday morning for the second session of the Core Support Professional Learning. Participants began the session by reviewing Common Core content based on their results from the Knowledge and Practice Survey (see Session 1 resources ). Teachers then engaged in observing classroom instruction, basing their feedback and next steps on the Instructional Practice Guides. Materials for this session are linked below. Using Aligned Resources at RISE Academy for Adult Achievement

On Tuesday and Thursday this week, educators at RISE Academy for Adult Achievement will be working on selecting and using resources that support the College and Career Standards for Adult Education (CCRS). Participants will begin the session reviewing the features of text complexity and text dependent tasks before moving on to apply this understanding to the selection of available open education resources . Teachers will complete the learning session by engaging in instructional moves they will focus on using in their classes this semester, Shared Annotations and Modified Fishbowl. Knowledge & Practice Survey at North Star Online School

North Star educators gathered this morning to take the Knowledge and Practice Survey available from Student Achievement Partners . During the morning's session, participants took the survey, scored their results, and examined resources that might best support their needs. Future professional learning sessions will be based on areas of need highlighted by the survey. Materials for the session can be found below. Social Emotional Learning and the Common Core

The  Social Emotional Learning department in Washoe County School District is hosting a series of mini-conferences throughout the 2016-2107 school year focused on supporting teachers and school leaders as they implement SEL at their school sites. At the first such conference on Thursday evening, some educators participated in a session focused on integrating SEL with Common Core-aligned teaching and learning. Working with an article published by educationfirst , educators engaged with instructional moves and explored how they integrated Social Emotional Learning standards and the CCSS ELA Instructional Shifts . Participants began by reading and completing a shared annotation of the article, " Every Child, by Name and Face, to Graduation" before moving onto a discussion of the article using Save the Last Word . RISE Teacher Orientation and Common Literacy Strategies

Teachers at RISE Academy for Adult Achievement began the first quarter of the 2016-2017 school year engaged in professional learning focused on the use of common literacy strategies.  This year the school is focused on regularly engaging students in rich and rigorous evidence-based discussion on substantive topics. To support this work, teachers  began Thursday's session by exploring common literacy tools - the RISE Annotation Guide, argumentative writing stems, and writing rubrics ( argumentative and informational ). Participants then then worked with the article "The Myth of the Culture of Poverty" by Paul Gorksi and engaged in two discussion strategies - Save the Last Word and Question Quads. EQuIP Rubrics for UNR's EL 703 Students

Education Leadership students enrolled at UNR explored the EQuIP rubrics on Wednesday evening. Facilitated by Jafeth E.
